Feature film title sequence to Lars Saabye Christensen’s much loved novel of the same name

i. Project Background
For the feature film Beatles, based on Lars Saabye Christensen’s beloved coming-of-age novel, I was tasked with creating the main title sequence, a chance to set the tone for the story before the first scene even began.

ii. Process
Drawing inspiration from the visual culture of the 1960s, I designed a sequence that evolves in step with the film’s themes. It opens with a clean, structured aesthetic echoing the early sixties, gradually shifting into a more vibrant, psychedelic mood as the titles progress, mirroring both the cultural upheaval of the decade and the personal transformations at the heart of the story.

The animation style was intentionally restrained, simple, graphic, and true to the era, letting the imagery and rhythm do the storytelling. Political moments, pop culture, and subtle nods to the Beatles themselves weave into the design, offering a snapshot of the world our characters are growing up in.

A tone-setter, a time capsule, and a visual nod to a decade of change, all set to a familar tune... don’t touch that dial!
